This was informative because it shows that motion is the most important aspect of cinema. I found that this was quite relevant to my stop motion video. I was sometimes moving my cars, sometimes the camera, and sometimes the objects in the background. Any or all of these can create a different sense of motion. From an evolutionary standpoint, motion is the first and most important thing we notice around us, so it makes sense that it has such importance in film.
This was an interesting video because it showed different ways to portray time in film.

Vinyl Intervention
This is the documentary I mentioned in class. It is a bit dated so doesn't touch on the current situation, but will help contextualize what is happening in Venezuela now.

Project 1 Response
Please post a response to our first project:
Multiple Personalities Photoshop Composite
How do you feel about the overall outcome in relation to your art making process?I could have done a bit more with the shading and cleaned up the edges
Do you feel you used your time well?
no
Reflect on the process of making this project, what were the challenges you faced? (conceptual, technical, planning, time)
I thought the prompt was too personal for the medium. I wish there were fewer restrictions or a more open ended prompt.
Reflect on the project critique: was the feedback helpful, did you find it adequate/not enough/challenging/harsh/inspiring
It was nice to see everybody else's work
Please share any other thoughts or reflections.
A drawing pad would have helped
Post this with your image of the finished piece.

Social Identity
I plan to create a space like this, featuring the addition of some plants and water in the foreground and a geometric pentagon pattern in the sky.
Is it your past, your future, your upbringing, your culture, your tastes, your beliefs, your looks?
How can you play with different aspects of your identity?
How many versions of you will you include?
Will they be the same scale?
Why?
How will you take the images you plan to use?
About the Space:
What type space are you creating and how does it relate to who you are?
I would like it to feature the mountains, sky, water, and clouds. I appreciate nature and landscapes. I want to show myself working on a mural, but I don't think the actual mural will be done by the time this is due. I will therefore finish it on photoshop.
What kind of images do you need to collect to create this space?
I will try to take some photos of nature in my darkroom photography class and integrate them in.
I am thinking of making myself working on a mural that is currently in progress at various stages

Where do you need to go to take pictures?
My room
My room
How does the created environment relate to your characters?
Will people other than you appear in this image?
Possibly some animals. The mural will feature two elephants when it's done, but I haven't started that part yet. For this project, real elephant photos will be in their place.
What mood are you trying to create? What will the overall tone be (think cinematically)?
Cosmic
About the Self:
What defines your identity?
Human, from earth
Is it your past, your future, your upbringing, your culture, your tastes, your beliefs, your looks?
All of the above
How can you play with different aspects of your identity?
Perhaps I will create versions of myself old and young, spiraling into the stars in the background
Think about your internal and external self. How do you present an image that communicates your personality?
I see no boundary of my internal and external self. Individuality is a lie and all of biology is one.
How many versions of you will you include?
5
Will they be the same scale?
No
Why?
Because the pentagons represent fractals which are consistent on every scale in nature
How will you take the images you plan to use?
With my film camera, and then I will scan them in. I also may take some digitally.
Consider time of day, lighting conditions,
environment, costumes, makeup… (Good planning and spending time photographing will make for an easier process when compositing your images)
Below is a slightly dated photo of the unfinished mural. I will finish it digitally before I finish the real thing. Since it is on a non-rectangular wall, I will use the extra space to create more of a scene.

Image Collection Project
This is a in-class project where we will be collecting images we have sourced online. These images should be found, not created by you. Please take a moment to look at the artist below and think about these questions before you begin your collection.
Is there something you collect (physical or digital)?
I have collected lots of things over the course of my life. Mostly artifacts from different times or places. I have collected licence plates, flags, Pez dispensers, coins, and more.
How does the digital world affect the way we collect?
It enables us to buy online from around the world, rather than only from a local store.
Think about the digital collections you have...for example: I have years worth of photographs, a hard drive full of music I haven't listen to in 5 years, resumes dating back to 2001...
I have lots of digital photos, music, old essays.
Set up collecting parameters (do a search or two to see if it's plausible): What? (swimming pools in Philadelphia)
How do people around the world react to the Google Street View car photographing them?
How many? (example 10… less is more because you will be processing each image you collect)
15
Where to source (must be online - google maps)? Why? (What does this say about you, society, why is this important?)
Google Street View

Write a five line story.
From my roof at quarter past two I saw
The waxing lemon slice moon sink behind a naked old oak tree
No photo could capture her pristine beauty as she turned as red as Mars
Then stretched and warped and turned from red to brown
Then faded away to the lights of the night of the town.
